On 6th
April 2013, in Mai Hich commune, Mai chau District, Hoa Binh province,
the Center for Community Health and Development (COHED), in conjunction
with The Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA),
administered a key event on models of sustainable poverty reduction.

The
event saw more than 100 distinguished guests representing national,
provincial, district and communal government authorities as well as mass
media, travel agencies and community members come together for a series
of workshop activities and field visits.

The
event, which coincided with a decade of community development work by
COHED, offered a perfect opportunity to exchange experiences and success
stories on sustainable poverty reduction interventions, which have
promoted rural development, enhanced local knowledge and built the
capacity of the local community. These particular models are components
of the Integrated HIV/AIDS Prevention Program for Rural Sustainable Poverty Reduction in Mai Hich Commune, which has been put into operation by COHED since Jannuary 2011 under the support of Bread for the Word and Missereor.

In line
with the overall community development theme, a special part of the
event also included an entertaining cultural night where attendees were
introduced to the indigious culture of the local Thai ethnic minority,
through a series of well-designed traditional performances and
activities.

At this
event, it was COHED’s great honor to receive a Commendation and
Certificate of Merit from the Hoa Binh Provincial Peoples’ Committee for
the organization’s outstanding work and achievements in sustainable
community development in this locality.
